BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 1:26-28 KJV (RCCG Sunday School STUDENT Manual 31 March 2019)

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

LESSON INTRODUCTION:

Kingdom means king’s domain. The domain is the area where the king has dominion (absolute control). Dominion also refers to sovereign and supreme authority; the power of governing and controlling. It is the power to direct, use and dispose at pleasure. One of the most beautiful features of the Christian life is that as God’s children, we are created for dominion (Gen. 1:28; Rev 1:6). God wants us to exercise dominion in every area of life.

TWO OUTLINES

1. SECRETS OF DOMINION

2. SOME AREAS OF DOMINION

1. SECRETS OF DOMINION

In order to enjoy the kind of life God has prepared for us, you need to understand what it takes to have, exercise and maintain dominion. You must surrender your life to Christ, abide with Him and remain under His authority as your Lord and Saviour ( 2 Cor. 5:17; Job 22:21; Phil. 2:9-11). Rule over your own spirit (Prov. 16:32) by subjecting it to the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:14). Exercise your faith in Christ (Matt. 17:20; Luke 17:6). Fervent prayer (James 5:17), the blood of Jesus (Rev. 12:11), and then power of God’s word (Heb. 4:12) are other essential ingredients for dominion. Above all, a consistent life of holiness is non-negotiable for anyone that wants to exercise dominion continuously (Heb. 1:8; John 14:30; Eccl. 10:8)

2. SOME AREAS OF DOMINION

As a child of God created in His likeness and regenerated in Christ, it is expected that you exercise dominion in every aspect of your life. These include:

i. Spiritual dominion. Eph. 1:18-22; Luke 10:19.

ii. Physical dominion. Gen. 9:2; Mark 16:18.

iii. Financial dominion. 2 Chron. 1:11-12; Prov. 22:7.

iv. Political dominion. Gen. 41:40-41; Daniel 2:48; 6:1-2.

CONCLUSION:

The devil hates to see you enjoy your Christian life; he is also looking for obstacles to hinder you from exercising dominion. However, God has given you dominion over every power and antics of the wicked one. Luke 10:19.

QUESTIONS:

  1. Mention 4 secrets of dominion.
  2. What areas of human endeavour can you exercise dominion?
