THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When the fear of God is lacking, character becomes bankrupt.
Seeds Of Destiny For Today 2026 MESSAGE
The desire of many people is to live lives that please God and uphold godly character. However, many are unable to uphold godly character or upright living because of some hindrances that stand in the way of godly living.
One of these enemies of godly living are the lack of love for both God and man and the lack of the fear of God. These two forces weaken character, destroy integrity, and make it difficult to live a life that honours God.
Let us take a closer look at these enemies and see how we can overcome them to live a life that pleases God:
- Lack of love for both God and man
The lack of love for God and man is a major enemy of godly character. Loveless hearts are behind sinful lives. When the heart is bankrupt of love for God and love for man, sinful living becomes natural and effortless.
When one of the scribes asked our Master Jesus what the greatest commandment was, He answered: “…Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength…” Then He added, “…Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself…” He concluded by saying that “There is none other commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:29-31).
If you truly love God and love your neighbour, you do not need to struggle to remember the commandments. You will naturally live them out because, by love, you desire to please God at all costs, and when you truly love God and man, you cannot hate or hurt your neighbour; you will love them. One prayer every believer should pray continually is: “Lord, saturate my heart with Your love. Help me to love like You.”
- Lack of the fear of God.
When the fear of God is lacking, character becomes bankrupt. Job was described as a man who was perfect and upright because he feared God and eschewed evil (Job 1:1).
Joseph was also a God-fearing man, and he was also a man of godly and upright character. In Genesis 42:18, he said, “…I fear God.”
The fear of God is the bedrock of godly character. Anyone who has a healthy reverence and respect for God will be established and founded on godly character. Where the fear of God is absent, anything can happen. People manipulate justice, cheat others, oppress the innocent, and subvert the course of another person’s destiny because they have forgotten that one day they will stand before God to give an account of their lives.
Beloved, to uphold a life of godly character, you must avoid every form of hindrance to godly living. Be an example of the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity (1 Timothy 4:12).
REMEMBER THIS: When the fear of God is lacking, character becomes bankrupt.
ASSIGNMENT(S):
- Ask God daily to saturate your heart with genuine love for Him and for people.
- Cultivate the fear of God by making His Word the standard for your decisions.
- Continually ask God for grace and help to do what is right in every situation.
PRAYER: Father, saturate my heart with Your love and establish me in the fear of the Lord. Help me to avoid every hindrance to godly living, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
