Open Heavens for Teens

Topic: Watch Your Words [Teens Open Heavens 14, May 2018]

Memorise: Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers. – Ephesians 4:29

Read: Matthew 12:33-37 (KJV)

33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Bible In One Year: 2 Kings 9-11, John 5:1-24

MESSAGE:

As a child of God, you must be very careful with the way you use words. If God who is your Father could create the entire universe by the Word, then you have the power in your mouth to do and undo. Proverbs 18:21 says that life and death are in the power of the tongue and because of this, the words we say go a long way in determining the course of our lives. How do you use your tongue? Do you say negative things about yourself or others? Do you slander others or gossip with your tongue? Stop it! You are actually committing murder with your tongue. Do you speak abusively towards your friends and family members? Or do you tell dirty jokes or use swear words? Watch your words! Everything you say with your mouth is being recorded, and will be judged by Christ.

Your words can bring long life and prosperity to you, or it can bring sorrow and untold hardship to you. Be careful about what you say, how you say it, and who you say it to.

Key Point: Let your words bring life, not death.

Hymn 2:

1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4.But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
