Open Heavens for Teens

Topic: Look Up To Jesus Only [Teens’ Open Heavens 8, April 2018]

Memorise: And He said to them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:23

Read: Luke 9:23-26 (KJV)

23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.

Bible In One Year: Ruth 1-4, Luke 11:29-54

MESSAGE:

Besides prosperity and comfort, another thing that can divert your attention while running the race is resting before you reach your goal. Your goal is Heaven, but while we are still here on earth we have no resting place. The wise men of Matthew 2:1-16 kept on travelling for a period of two years following the stars. Some time to rest would have been appealing to them, but because they had to reach their goal, and the star they were following kept on moving, they also kept on moving for that whole period. If they had called for a rest, they would have missed their trail. Why are you declaring a rest when you have not reached your goal? Calling for rest before its time will always lead the fellow into trouble.

Moreover, another diversion from the race is taking your eyes off the star which is your guide; Jesus Christ. Look up to Jesus only. When you look up to Jesus, He will never fail you.

Key Point: If your leader is a bad example, pray for him, but look up to Jesus. Jesus is God’s standard.

Hymn 1:

1. My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Saviour divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!

2. May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
A living fire !

3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.

4. When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold, sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll;
Blest Saviour, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul!
