Open Heavens for Teens

Topic: The Counsellors [Teens Open Heavens 9, July 2018]

Memorise: Where no counsel is, the people fall; but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. Proverbs 11:14

Read: Proverbs 19:20-21 (KJV)

20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

21 There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

Bible In One Year: Job 40-42, Acts 15:22-41

MESSAGE:

Isaiah 9:6 calls Jesus ‘Wonderful’. One reason for that is because there are certain situations or events that ordinary strength, understanding or ability cannot contain. At such a time, he can bring to bear His infinite supernatural strength, wisdom and ability.

Another name the Lord is called in Isaiah 9:6 is counsellor. A counsellor is the one you go to when you do not know what to do next. The quality of the decisions you make will be determined by the strength of advice received. The quality of advice you receive is a function of the experience and the training of your adviser. This is why you need Jesus. It is His advice that guarantees success in every spheres of life because He is the Ancient of days, the all-knowing God.

Prayer Point: Until you cut off from ungodly counsels and counsellors, you may never experience Jesus as the Counsellor.

Hymn 10
1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Ev’rything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Ev’rything to God in prayer!

2. Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a Friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer!

3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield You;
You wilt find a solace there.
