Topic: Life Is Your Portion in Christ [TREM Devotional 13 March 2019]

“Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.” – Genesis 3:20 NIV

In 1 Timothy 2:14, we are told that Adam was not deceived. Eve was the one deceived and God came on the scene and began to proclaim judgment. He said to the serpent you are going to begin to crawl and the serpent began to crawl. God proclaimed judgment on the woman saying in sorrow you are going to bear children and your desire shall be to your husband. And to the man, God said, you will sweat and toil before you will eat.

This was not an interesting picture to behold but that of disaster and hopelessness for Adam and Eve. We thought faith began with Abraham and we call him the father of faith. But actually faith didn’t begin with him, it started with Adam. Adam could have said I am finished or I am ruined. Nothing would ever work because God has just proclaimed a curse. But Adam looked at his wife in spite of the curse that was proclaimed, and named her Eve. This means you are living; you are not dead. Eve means life! Adam said ‘Eve, I know that a curse has been proclaimed but I declare that you are Life?

Put on your imagination! God Almighty has just spoken! Adam could have said, ‘Period! That settles it!’ But Adam knew his authority. Adam understood what God had just said but refused to say the wrong thing. That picture before him was a picture of death but he looked at his wife and said ‘you are not just alive, you are the mother of all living!’ Hallelujah! Watch what God did unto Adam immediately he said that. Genesis 3:21 says: “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”(KJV) When you read further, you will discover that God immediately began to organize protection for them and said no more death. You will live! You will live because life is your portion. In Christ, you have passed from death into life.
