Topic: Feed Continually On The Word [TREM Devotional 17 February 2019]

“And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.” 1 Kings 19:8 KJV

Today, we have a generation that does not read the Word. And the devil understands and likes it. Majority of the believers don’t read the Bible. All they have done is receive Jesus and they are not doing anything to find out what the Bible says about them. You see, the devil doesn’t mind you carrying 24 translations of the Bible as long as you don’t know what is inside them. He doesn’t mind you coming to church 24/7 as long as you are ignorant of what the Word says. Remember that we err when we don’t know the scriptures.

In 1 Kings 19, Elijah was running from Jezebel. This was the Elijah that had just been used mightily by God. He had called down fire and the whole Samaria was shaken. He had just slaughtered all the false prophets and Jezebel sent him a message that his head was going to be off when he would be caught. Then Elijah took off and ran. Why did he run? He ran because he had forgotten the Word. When you let go of the Word, you will become discouraged and you will run. Just like the prophet Elijah, sometimes we grumble and complain thinking God had abandoned us in our moments of need.

When Elijah was complaining and wallowing in self-pity, the Lord knew what was happening. He said ‘This man is hungry’ and they baked for him fresh bread and gave him water as well. In this context, bread and water represent the Word and the Spirit. He ate and the Father said that he was not satisfied, ‘if we send him on this errand, as he is, he is going to mess up. Give him more.’ And they gave him another dose of the Word. Keep feeding on the Word. You will certainly need it because the journey is far.
