“The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage”. – Psalm 16:5-6KJV

“I have a goodly heritage”. What an assurance! In Christ, you have an inheritance in God. It belongs to you by virtue of the fact that you are born again. The tragedy of the modern-day Christian who does not bother to read and find out his rights and privileges in the Lord is that he thinks he has to labour for everything. Such believers don’t believe they can get anything if they had not laboured, struggled and paid some extra price beyond what they should. Yet, for the new testament believer what God wants us to do is to believe.

Beloved, there is nothing you can do to earn the goodness of God. The bible says in Isaiah 54:6 “that our righteousness is like filthy rags in his sight.” That is why when we sing the song of grace, I just break down weeping. Righteousness is a gift. For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:17 KJV). The bible says “if by one man’s offence death reigned……” Who is that one man? Adam of course!

We were not there when Adam sinned, but we are all products of Adam because through Adam the whole humanity came to be. And so, we inherited what we have because we were in his loins. Death, in this regard, is not just the end of life. Death also means poverty, hardship, sickness and disease. It means failure in exam. Death means anything that brings you discomfort and dissatisfaction. You go for exams you fail; you go for interviews and you are turned back. These are all manifestations of death. But in Christ, we are set free from the mess Adam put all of us in. In Christ we have passed from death to life. That is our good heritage. Declare your heritage over your life on a daily basis.
