TOPIC: Don’t Allow Junk In Your Heart (TREM Devotional 18 September 2021)

“O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the treasures of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.” – Matthew 12:34-35 KJV

When you lodge negative things into your heart, don’t expect a good harvest because you have already sowed a bad seed. Jesus said in Mark 4:14 that “the sower sows the Word” (NKJV). What you speak depends on what is in your heart; what you say is what you get. In other words, if what is in your heart is evil and wrong, you are going to speak the wrong thing. If you are lodging in your heart such things like: “I am sick… I don’t think that it will work out in my favour… I don’t think I can survive… I think my sickness is killing me… I cannot finish that house…”and so on, when you speak, you are going to speak the wrong things. The seed you sow is what you’ll reap.

Your words are powerful and critical. The events that will be happening around you will want to make you say the wrong things! That is why I am challenging you now to guard your heart because when you do, you will guard your mouth. You need to walk in understanding so that you can navigate through the banana peels of life.

The Bible makes us to know that there is nothing coming from outside you, be it a storm, be it what somebody is saying, be it the challenges and the pressures of life that can defile you (Mark 7:14-15). When it is coming from outside, it does not have the capacity to defile or destroy you. When it is coming, you have to eject it. However, the things which come from within are the things that defile the man. It is what you allow to stay in you that eventually comes out of you and those are the things that destroy.
