TOPIC: You Are A Covenant Man (TREM Devotional 5 March 2022)
“And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” 1 Samuel 17:26 (KJV)
One of the things that will enable you to win the battles of life is to have a working revelation that you are a covenant man. Man, here referring to both the male and the female gender.
David was able to kill Goliath because of his understanding and faith in the covenant that God had with the nation of Israel. To David, the covenant was not just a religious cliché or casual words of God. He knew the power of covenant. He knew that God meant what He said, and he knew God had said that no one would be able to stand before His people (Deut.11:25), and David took this word literally and God honoured it.
David also knew that Goliath was an uncircumcised man and did not have a covenant with God. So, he knew he had an advantage over Goliath. While Goliath had all the physical qualifications and weapons, David’s faith was absolutely on the promises God had given him through the covenant He made with Israel, and David knew that Covenant supersedes natural weapons.
Interestingly, Saul and his entire army had the same covenant, but they had no faith in it. They relied on their physical power and weapon and so they were no match against Goliath. Child of God, a covenant will never have effect when it is not believed. Until a promise is mixed with faith, it will never profit you (Heb, 4:2).
When David stepped out to fight Goliath, Saul offered him his armour, but David refused to fight with it (1 Sam. 17:38-39) because his trust was in the God of the Covenant, after all, the armour could not help Saul. You have no reason to cower before your enemies. You have a better covenant based on better promises (Heb. 8:6).
Through the blood of Jesus, begin to walk in the victory that He has already purchased for you.
