Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, sounded confident yesterday when he assured his supporters that he would complete his four years tenure as governor of the state, in spite of the tribunal ruling which nullified his election on Saturday.

Wike stated this at a thanksgiving service held at Obi Wali International Convention Centre, Port Harcourt, where the leadership and supporters of Peoples Democratic (PDP) gathered to honour God over the tribunal judgment delivered by Justice Suleiman Ambrosa.

Wike, who was received with jubilation by party supporters, as he mounted the rostrum, encouraged his supporters that their mandate would be regained.

“We will win and I will complete my four years tenure as the governor of Rivers State. The thanksgiving service today is very significant because, if what enemies planned had work, I wouldn’t have been governor today.

“The nullification of my election by the tribunal sitting in Abuja shows that justice is ours. I am surprised that some people are celebrating over the judgment when they described the judgment against their candidates at the National Assembly as ‘judicial 419’.

“It is now that they have confidence in the judiciary. In spite of the judgment, we will still have hope in judiciary. I want to beg you, don’t be provoked. I know what happened at the weekend, it’s provoking. But, I know what their plans are; that is why I am begging you to be calm.

“I was minister in this country and I was given the highest responsibility and today, some people are struggling to be a minister; and they are celebrating to be a minister as if nobody has been a minister in this state.”

In his opening remarks during thanksgiving service entitled: “God has the final say”, the state PDP Chairman, Felix Obuah, admonished PDP supporters in the state to be strong and bold.

Meanwhile, former Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi and the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Dakuku Peterside have thanked God for granting the party victory at the tribunal, by nullifying Wike’s election.

Amaechi, who spoke yesterday evening (at about 7.30pm) at a gathering of the party in Port Harcourt, noted that, in his political history, he does not achieve things with ease. He confessed that their victory at the election petitions tribunal was by God’s grace. Also, Peterside expressed optimism that APC would win the rerun election and charged party members to be peaceful and calm. Elsewhere, he described the ruling as victory for Rivers people.

In a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Assistant on Media, Sylvester Asoya, Peterside said the ruling was a victory not just for democracy but also for justice and the rule of law. [By Sunnews]
