And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. 1 Samuel 3:10

In 1 Samuel 3, the Lord first called Samuel in verse 4. Because Samuel did not know the Lord, and His Word was not yet revealed to him (verse 7), he thought it was Eli calling him. Most of us, like Samuel, do not recognise the voice of the Lord, so we miss His calling, and thereby miss out on the things He wants to accomplish through us.

Verse 7 of 1 Samuel 3 gives us two reasons why we don’t recognise the voice of God. First, we don’t know Him (John 10:14‭, ‬27). If we know Him and belong to Him, we’ll know His voice. We can know Him through the study of the scriptures. Second is that His Word is not yet revealed to us. Christ again in John 16:12 told the disciples “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.” There are things He says, and wants to say that we cannot understand because His Word is not yet revealed to us. And His Word can only be revealed to us through the Holy Spirit (John 16:13).

And when we know Him, and His Word is revealed to us, we not only hear and understand His voice, He reveals Himself to us. In 1 Samuel 3:10, after Samuel was told it was the Lord calling him, and how to answer when he was called again, scripture says “And the Lord came, and stood…” The Lord reveals Himself when we pay attention to His call.

Keep winning daily.

Wise Action:
Study the Word of God constantly, and as you study, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth to you.
