Topic: The Churches: Pergamos [18/3/2016]
Text: Revelation 3:12
One thing I love about the church in Pergamos is their ability to stay in the hot bed of Satan, that is, where Satan holds sway. They remind me of the churches in the North Eastern states of Nigeria and other Arab or Islam dominated countries. Irrespective of the persecution they face, they have not denied the Lord. They love the Lord even unto death. And many have been martyred for Christ sake.
But, they had some challenges, key of these is the issue of perversion of the doctrine of Christ. The leaders of the church did not stick to their task, rather they were teaching the people false doctrine and pulling them away from Christ, causing them to commit fornication (not literarily though). A classic example of this fornication is when members of the church look up to someone, especially the leader for everything and not Jesus.
Any doctrine that does not point us to Jesus must never be embraced. Everything in scriptures point us to Jesus, He is the centre of it all. And now, He is calling on the perpetrators to “repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth” (Revelation 3:16). The sword of His mouth is His Word, His truth and His doctrine. It will always prevail and it is prevailing over every doctrine of balaam and the nicolaitanes.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank You for Your Church and all the leaders of Your Church. I pray that every false doctrine pervading Your Church be pulled down by the truth of Your Word now, that the truth of your Word be preached in every congregation, in Jesus name. Amen.
