Topic: The Churches: Sardis [20/3/2016]
Text: Revelation 3:1-6

The Holy Ghost is the life blood of the Church. Without the Holy Ghost the Church is dead. He is the life giver of the everyone that is in Christ. Jesus told the Samaritan woman in John 4:14 “whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” He was talking about the Holy Ghost, and this was affirmed in John 7:38-39.

The church in Sardis was a lifeless church. They had a name that lives. They knew Jesus, but they were devoid of the Holy Ghost leading. Revelation 3:1 says this about them, “and unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.” It wasn’t a mistake for Jesus to be introduced as the one who had the seven Spirits of God. That shows what was lacking in this Church, the Holy Spirit.

Unfortunately, we have Churches and congregations like the church in Sardis. Having a name that is living but they are indeed dead. But this situation is redeemable. The Church must give the Holy Spirit the first place in their affairs. The Church is nothing without the Holy Spirit. We need Him in His fullness. He is the only one we’ve got here with us of the Godhead and without the Holy Spirit, we can do nothing (John 15:5). We must give Him the first place in the affairs of the Church.
Every member of the Church needs the Holy Spirit to keep winning daily.

Prayer:

Dear Father, I thank You for Your Spirit which You have given to the Church, to bring Your life to us. I pray, that the Church embrace the leadership of the Holy Spirit in all she does, in Jesus name. Amen.
