Topic: Don’t Settle For Less [8/9/2016]

Text: 1 Chronicles 4:9-10

The story of Jabez is a very interesting one. Even though it was contained in just two verses of the whole scriptures, there are wonderful lessons we can learn from it. One of these lessons is ‘never to settle for less.’ God created us with an insatiable appetite. Everyone wants more than he has and this is not a bad thing; especially when you are not getting what you need, or you are not where you know you ought to be. Normally you should never be comfortable with anything less or accept anything that comes your way.

But unfortunately, some people accept less than what they should have. That is contrary to God’s intention for us. God wants to give you what you need and bring you to the place originally designed for you by Him. Jabez, born in sorrow by his mother, knew that he deserved better in life and he knew that God has better plans for his life than he was having. So “Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me” (1 Chronicles 4:10a).

This prayer by Jabez stems from a heart that knows what God has prepared for those that love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9). And He knew that God would grant him his desires (John 15:7). So he prayed, and scriptures says: “…and God granted him that which he requested” (1 Chronicles 4:10b). And a man born in sorrow, became more honourable than his brethren (1 Chronicles 4:9). He never settled for less. Don’t settle for less. God has much more for you than you have now. Go for it.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:
Dear God, oh that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that Your hand will be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
