Topic: Forget The Past [Sunday, 1st October, 2017]

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. Philippians 3:13

To get ahead in life, you need to learn how to leave the past behind. Some folks are so stuck in the past that they forget to live the present and focus on the future. Life is never stagnant, but you can keep yourself stagnated if the bond between you and your past remains unbroken. While some folks get stuck to the failures of the past, some other gets stuck to the successes of the past. But one thing is certain, no matter what went down in the past, you need to disconnect from them so you can make the leap to get ahead in life.

I have a colleague who loves talking about his past, and how he lived his life in the USA. Apparently, his days in the USA were his best days, his glory days. Then he was at the peak of his powers and was doing a lot for himself. I have not catch him talk about his future and what will become of his life. You don’t need someone to tell you that he is stuck in his past, it is so evident. You hear some folks talk about their conquest of the past. What the anointing accomplished in the past. What their brilliant mind produced in the past. Man! The past is past, forget about it. There is more impact to make now. You have today to do better than yesterday, and there is a more glorious tomorrow. Scriptures says “…the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day” (Proverbs4:18). There is a more glorious accomplishment awaiting you than what you did in the past.

There are also some folks who are stuck with the failures of the past. They are so tied to the past that they refused to live today or dream about tomorrow. These folks are too afraid to try again. The truth is, you never failed, you only stopped trying. If you will try again today, you will see that success can be achieved. Don’t allow past failures put your light out. There is too much glory in you that the world cannot but see. Your past failures are not a true reflection of who you are. You’ve got Jesus in you, and He is the Guarantor of your success. Forget those things which are behind, reach forth unto those things which are before (Philippians 3:13). Reach out, stretch out and you will stand out on the podium of success. Is it the failed business deals, ministry drive, relationships, career pursuit, etc? Shake them off. They’ve got nothing on you. Live again. Strike another deal. Love again.

Launch the ministry again. Pursue that career again. Yes, you’ve got Jesus and you will win.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for Your Word which has inspired me to be what You have destined me to be. Today, I decide to forget about the past, both its successes and failures. I am living today as the proof of Your glory and I reach out for more expression of Your glory in me, both now and in the future, as my light shines brighter and brighter, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
