Winning Wisdom: God Is Not Easily Provoked

Topic: God Is Not Easily Provoked [Friday, 16th June 2017]

….for God is Love. 1 John 4:8

This is one of the best truths about the nature of God. He is not easily provoked. Love is not easily provoked, and so is God. Yes, God gets angry, but because of His love, He satisfied His anger on Jesus so that He wouldn’t have to get angry or provoked by our sins. Scriptures say in 1 John 4:10 TLB, that “in this act we see what real love is: it is not our love for God but his love for us when he sent his Son to satisfy God’s anger against our sins.”

This does not mean He condones sin for scripture clearly states that He cannot behold iniquity (Habakkuk 1:13). This was why He sent His Son to take away our iniquities (1 John 2:2), that He may impute righteousness in us through His son (Romans 3:24-26).

So, now when God looks at us, He sees His Son, Who has satisfied His anger, and doesn’t get angry at us. When we sin, God only sees a people who He loves and who are in need of His mercies and not His Judgment.

Someone will ask: will people still go to hell? Well, yes, people will, but not because God is angry with them, but because they choose not to accept His payment for their sins and the life He offers them (John 3:17-18). God’s anger is not triggered by our sins. He is not provoked to wrath by sin. God hardly notice when people sin (1 Corinthians 13:6 TLB), because He says He will not remember our sins (Hebrew 10:17). Love is hardly provoked. God is hardly provoked. Be like God.

Keep winning daily.

Dear Father, thank You for Your loving kindness, and Your mercies that are new every morning. Thank You for loving me even in my fallen state, and for keeping me for You. Help me always that where sin abounds, grace abounds in abundance and that You always want me with You, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
