Topic: Know The Lord Personally [Tuesday, 8th Nov. 2016]

And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. Matthew 16:16

While it is not out of place to hear about God and His exploits from the experience of others, it is far better and the benefits far weightier when you get to know God personally. Men can describe God the way they know Him but their descriptions and explanations of who God is cannot give you the warmth of your personal experience. This is more than being a Christian for decades; you can be a Christian and still not know God. This is because knowing God is not about what people have said He is, but what He has told you about Himself.

In Matthew 16, Jesus asked His disciples who men said He was (vs14). After calling what people said they knew Jesus to be, which were not correct, He asked His disciples, who had been with Him since the conception of His ministry about His identity. Peter alone could reply through divine revelation, because God revealed it to him. Just like the disciples that time, most Christians are also bereft of the knowledge of Jesus. And just like Jesus was not impressed with Philip, His disciple, when He told him in John 14:9 that “have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?” So also He is not impressed with Christians who don’t know Him.

Having a personal knowledge of the Lord has lots of benefits we cannot pass up. Scriptures say in 2 Peter 1:2 – “grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” Meditating of this scripture opens up some of the advantages of knowing the Lord. Get to know the Lord through intimacy with the Holy Spirit and God’s Word.

Keep winning daily.

Ask the Lord to reveal Himself more to you as you set your heart on Him.
