Topic: Our Actions Preach [Saturday, 20th May 2017]
Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an example. Philippians 3:17
I’ve noticed that kids listen to what we tell them, but also, to what we do. This is because it is easier to reproduce an act already seen. So, if you tell a child to drop his/her plate in the kitchen after each meal, but he doesn’t see you do the same, s/he is very likely to grow up not dropping his/her plate in the kitchen, after each meal. Same thing applies to people generally. We’ll notice that most persons react to us the way we interact with them. Bottom line is, it is easier to act what you see or what you can visualize.
Paul knew this very well, that was why he carefully acted what he preached, and admonished those around him to follow after what they saw him do. He said “those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you” (Philippians 4:9). Also, he said in Galatians 4:12, that “brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all.” What this goes to tell us is that, what we do is very important as it has more impact on others than the words we preach to them. Because when we preach a concept, they watch out for it in our lives, and if we don’t manifest it, they are very likely to discard it. As believers preaching Christ and His sacrifice of love, we should also exhibit same, so that Christ would be seen in our lives. Then the message we preach will become more profound.
Jesus said in John 8:38 that “I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.” This goes a long way to emphasize the importance of seeing and acting. Let our actions preach the words of our mouth, that the message of Christ becomes more profound to the world around us. And through our actions, they will learn the love, mercy, wisdom, righteousness and grace of God.

Dear Father, thank You for the blessed opportunity to preach You to men. Help me to reflect what I preach in and with corresponding actions, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
