Topic: Perfect Love [Friday, 30th June 2017]

But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 1 John 2:5

When we realize how wonderful God’s love is, and how that to truly live well in this world we would need to love God like He loves us, we would start praying that “the love of the Lord be she’d abroad in our hearts”, and that we be made perfect in God’s love (Romans 5:5, 1 John 4:18). But the question is ‘how do we know we’ve been perfected in God’s love?’

I heard once that when we pray for something, what God does is give us opportunities to manifest the result. This is exactly what 1 John 2:5 portrays: Whoso keepeth his word…” This means He gives instructions as opportunities for us to manifest perfection in love, and whoever keeps such instructions is the love of God perfected. We know we are perfected in God’s love when we can carry out His instructions without contention. Knowing and trusting His wisdom and holding onto His word that all things are working for our good.

If you’ve received instructions from God, you can testify that one or more of them seem illogical and counter-productive. Abraham, for example, was instructed by God to kill the seed through whom the promise of God to Him would be fulfilled. The instructions of God, mostly don’t sound right, but trusting Him and His promises that He knows all things, and that all things are working for your good, keeps you grounded in your faith, which in turn perfects His love in you. Continuous reliance on the Spirit inside of us, perfects His love in us.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:

Dear Father, I believe in Your intentionality, and that You want all good things for me, even Your love is made perfect in me. I now understand that it is obedience to You that I am perfected in love. Help me always to obey You, as You work in me to will and to do according to Your good pleasures, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
