But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. James 3:17
Over and again we’ve been admonished to not be wise according to the wisdom of the world or the natural man, “for the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God” (1 Corinthians 3:19), but to seek the wisdom of God (Proverbs 8:17). The question now is how do we know the wisdom of God. Firstly, it is pure. The Psalmist proclaimed “thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it” (Psalms 119:140). God is pure, therefore any thing that flows from Him is pure and untainted. Psalms 19:8 says: “the statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.”
The counsel that is from the wisdom of God will make a man and his action pure and before men, and there will be no occasion to accuse the man of anything untoward.
Secondly, it is peaceable. God is a God of peace (2 Thessalonians 3:16), and this can be seen from the instructions regarding peace given us throughout scriptures (Mark 9:50, 2 Corinthians 13:11, Hebrews 12:14, etc). Any counsel, therefore, that stirs towards trouble and strife is not a counsel from the wisdom of God and must be jettisoned.
Thirdly, it is gentle. Gentleness involves being kind and quiet; not harsh or forceful. One of the fruit of the Spirit is gentleness (Galatians 5:22), and the fruit of the Spirit are characteristics of God that we are to manifest. If therefore you receive a counsel that does not lean towards gentleness, it is not from above. Fourthly, it is reasonable. This means to be fair and sensible. We’ve been admonished by Christ to judge righteous judgements, He wouldn’t therefore counsel us towards a decision that is unjust.
The wisdom from above is perfect, and whoever finds her “findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord” (Proverbs 8:35).

Dear Father, thank You for making Your wisdom available for my daily living. Help me to always seek it, and find solace in Your wise counsel, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
