Topic: Wiser than your Enemies [Open Heavens for Teens 21 April 2019]

Memorise: “I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.” – Psalm 119:100

Read: Acts 6:8-10

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

Bible In One Year: 2 Samuel 1-3, Luke 18:1-17

MESSAGE:

Today’s bible reading tells us about Stephen who was elected as one of the deacons, not because he was educated but because he was filled with the Holy Spirit. This made available to him wisdom that surpassed the knowledge of others.

Our memory verse for today shows the link between God’s word and wisdom. This means that the closer and more open your spirit is to the bible, the wiser you become. As a Christian teenager, you need wisdom to discern between right and wrong; because in this present age, the line between these two has become blurred. You need wisdom to see through the lies and traps that the devil has placed everywhere, but you cannot have that wisdom if you do not study and memorise the word of God. It’s the magnitude of God’s word that you know that will help you know how to handle the wiles of the devil.

Prayer Point: Before you read your bible daily, ask God to fill you with wisdom from the word that you are about to read.

Hymn 8:

  1. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
    In light inaccessible hid from our eyes
    Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of days,
    Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
  2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
    Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
    Thy justice like mountains high soaring above,
    Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
  3. To all life thou givest to both great and small;
    In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
    We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
    And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee.
  4. Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light,
    Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
    All laud we would render; o help us to see;
    ‘Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee.
  5. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
    In light inaccessible hid from our eyes
    Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of days,
    Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
