Several news sites have been awash with reports that a certain Ibime Belema-Jonathan, a 24-year-old native of Nembe, Baylesa state, announced on Twitter yesterday that he is one of President Goodluck Jonathan’s illegitimate sons.
According to most reports, Belema-Jonathan claims his mother was a receptionist at an undisclosed Port Harcourt hotel when she met Goodluck Jonathan nearly 25 years ago.
Their relationship, according to the young man, was made private because of the risks it posed to the president’s then fledgling political career. He decided to disclose this information after recently being informed by his mother, who had just passed away, of his father’s identity.
It is his desire for his father to assume and fulfill his fatherly duties after a lifetime of absence, Belema-Jonathan reportedly said.
It is doubtful though if President Jonathan had a ‘fledgling political career’ 25 years ago. Information on Ibime Belema-Jonathan is also difficult to get on the internet, the uncanny resemblance between the two notwithstanding.
