TOPIC – Choices Have Consequences
READ: Proverbs 29:7-16 (NKJV)
- The righteous considers the cause of the poor, [But] the wicked does not understand [such] knowledge.
- Scoffers set a city aflame, But wise [men] turn away wrath.
- [If] a wise man contends with a foolish man, Whether [the fool] rages or laughs, [there is] no peace.
- The bloodthirsty hate the blameless, But the upright seek his well-being.
- A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise [man] holds them back.
- If a ruler pays attention to lies, All his servants [become] wicked.
- The poor [man] and the oppressor have this in common: The LORD gives light to the eyes of both.
- The king who judges the poor with truth, His throne will be established forever.
- The rod and rebuke give wisdom, But a child left [to himself] brings shame to his mother.
- When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increases; But the righteous will see their fall.
THE MESSAGE:
Every choice we make in life has consequences which are due rewards or just punishment for the choices and decisions. Many of our troubles occur because we make choices based on unreliable authorities such as culture, tradition or emotions. Solomon tells us that the wicked will flourish, grow or prosper, for a time, but eventually, they will meet their downfall. They will receive the consequences for their sinful choices someday.
Unfortunately, some Christians are frustrated as it appears the wicked seem to get away with their sins without consequences. Some wonder why they should abstain from evil. But remember, there is always a consequence to your choices.
If you choose to be wicked, God will deal with you in His time and in His way. If you choose to ignore God’s ways, hurting those around you, eventually, you will face the consequences of your choice in this life or in eternity. Friend, God will surely deal with those who choose to sin. Nobody will ever escape the consequences of their choices (Psalm 37:1-6). When you see sin multiplying, run from it and trust God to deal with it in His time and in His way. Find a way to stop the wickedness by focusing on your own choices – making sure they are in line with God’s word. Choose righteous living and stand for it.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to always make choices in life that will glorify Your name, Amen!
