BIBLE READING: Acts 16:22-26
22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.
MESSAGE:
Whenever we feel sad, the Bible encourages us to praise God in the beauty of His holiness. One of the Bible’s characters who consistently praised God was King David. Irrespective of the circumstances he found himself in, he danced for God like no man’s business, and God referred to him as a man after His heart.
In today’s Bible reading, Paul and Silas were thrown into prison, and it seemed like all hope was lost. However, instead of giving in to despair, they rose at midnight and sang praises to God. Before their worship session ended, the prison doors flung open. I believe God heard their praises and sent an angel to break their chains and set them free.
My dear child, are you struggling with a burden you can’t share with anyone? Do you feel caged by life’s difficulties? Instead of being overwhelmed, rise in faith and worship God wholeheartedly, as Paul and Silas did. As you praise Him, any chain of sadness that may be in your life will break, and His peace will flood your heart.
ACTION POINT:
Worship and praise your heavenly Father for 20 minutes without distractions.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
MARK 15:1-26, DEUTERONOMY 26-27
HYMN 4; HO, MY COMRADES! SEE THE SIGNAL
1 Ho, my comrades, see the signal, waving in the sky!
Reinforcements now appearing, victory is nigh.
Refrain:
“Hold the fort, for I am coming,” Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to heaven, “By Thy grace we will.”
2 See the mighty host advancing, Satan leading on,
Mighty ones around us falling, courage almost gone!
3 See the glorious banner waving, Hear the trumpet blow!
In our Leader’s Name we triumph over every foe.
4 Fierce and long the battle rages, but our help is near,
Onward comes our great Commander, cheer, my comrades, cheer!
