Topic: Abstain From Sin [Open Heavens for Teens 21 June 2019]

Memorise: “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:22

Read: Psalms 107:17-20

17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.

18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.

19 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.

20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

Bible In One Year: Esther 1-3, Acts 5:1-16

MESSAGE:

Deuteronomy 28:15-68, reveals to us a wide range of problems that sin can cause. Sin always has consequences. The only way you can truly be free from the consequences of sin is by fleeing from it totally, not by sinning once in a while.

Joseph did not deceive himself like many people do by hanging around things that draw them back to their bad habits. Instead of that, Joseph ran from Mrs Potiphar, landed in prison and came out victorious later. If you are being pushed by friend to do what you don’t want to do, don’t just refuse to do their bidding, separate yourself from them totally. If they call you names for this, don’t feel bad, you time of glory is just around the corner.

When you yield to sin, the result you get is often backwardness, stagnation, sickness and other devilish things. Be disciplined and stay clear of sin completely. If getting on social media causes you to sun, delete the apps from your phone. If hanging out with some friends causes you to sin, unfriendly them immediately and look for new godly friends.

Key Point:
Every sinner’s father is the devil and it is what your father has that he will give you; the devil only has evil things.

Hymn 16:

  1. Christian, seek not yet repose
    Hear thy gracious Savior say;
    Thou art in the midst of foes:
    Watch and pray.
  2. Principalities and power
    Mustering their unseen array
    Wait for the unguarded hours:
    Watch and pray
  3. Gird the heavenly armor on,
    Wear it ever night and day;
    Ambushed lies the evil one:
    Watch and pray.
  4. Hear the victors who o’ercame,
    Still they mark each warrior’s way;
    All with one sweet voice exclaim,
    Watch and pray.
  5. Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
    Him thou loves to obey;
    Hide within thy heart His word:
    Watch and pray.
  6. Watch, as if on that alone
    Hung the issue of the day;
    Pray, that help may be sent down:
    Watch and pray.
