Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets are well on course to qualify for the semifinals of the African Under 17 Championship after playing out a 1-1 draw with Guinea.

It was a game the Nigerians had to toil hard to secure the draw, coming from a goal down to score a very late equaliser in the match.

Two penalties defined the outcome of the game, with both teams scoring from the spot in either half.

Guinea got themselves in front at the Seyni Kountche stadium, with Sam Diallo stepping up and converting from the spot to give his side the lead after 13th minute.

With coach Emmanuel Amuneke’s team coming into the tournament in Niger Republic with a lot of promise, the young players showed determination until the end and their hard work paid off eventually.

Victor Osimhen particularly was impressive, running through the channels in attack and even scored, but saw his effort ruled out for an offside.

Nigeria eventually scored in the 86th minute through their skipper Kelechi Nwakali, belting in a penalty to level the scores.

Both teams now have four points after two matches, but Nigeria leads by virtue of a superior goal difference.

With World Cup qualification the alluring factor for the teams aiming to make the semifinals, Nigeria will be hoping that they can beat Zambia in their last game in order to be there.
