TOPIC: Strategically Positioned (Anglican Devotional 13 March 2021)

READ: Esther 4:10 – 17 (NKJV)

  1. Then Esther spoke to Hathach, and gave him a command for Mordecai:
  2. “All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that any man or woman who goes into the inner court to the king, who has not been called, he has but one law: put all to death, except the one to whom the king holds out the golden scepter, that he may live. Yet I myself have not been called to go in to the king these thirty days.”
  3. So they told Mordecai Esther’s words.
  4. And Mordecai told them to answer Esther: “Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king’s palace any more than all the other Jews.
  5. For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
  6. Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai:
  7. “Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!”
  8. So Mordecai went his way and did according to all that Esther commanded him.

THE MESSAGE:

Esther was made a queen for a purpose and the time to manifest that purpose had come. Would she fail like Vashti? According to our text, there was Mordecai to keep her alive to her divine mandate. At first, she wanted to stay away from it, but Mordecai revealed what would be the implication. It was for such a time that she was placed in the palace and if she failed, even her household would rot in death. Yet, deliverance would arise for the Jews from another source. Realising herself, Esther declared a 3-day and 3-night praying and fasting. She decided to approach the king against the constitution and regulation at the end of the fast even if it would cost her life.

What position are you occupying? How useful has your position been to the Church and entire people? Have you asked yourself: Why am I occupying this position in a time like this? Beloved of God, you are strategically positioned for the salvation, deliverance and safety of people. How well are you playing this role? God is disappointed in those who are in a position and cannot use it to affect the kingdom positively.

PRAYER: Inspire me to fulfil my divine mandate, O Lord, my God.
