TOPIC: Jesus The Lamb Of God

READ: John 1: 29-34 (NKJV)

  1. The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
  2. “This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’
  3. “I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.”
  4. And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.
  5. “I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
  6. “And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

THE MESSAGE:

Several terms are employed in the Bible to refer to Jesus Christ, especially in reference to His priestly roles. Among the many titles that describe Him, one that stands out is ‘the Lamb of God.’ John tells us that the purpose of this Lamb of God is to take away the sin of the world (verse 29). The truth of Scripture is that every man on earth is naturally a sinner from conception (Romans 3: 23), and by that sinful state, we are all enemies of God. But the good news is that God loves us all beyond human comprehension and decided to reconcile us to Himself, by sending Jesus to be the Lamb for the sacrifice!

John tells us that this provision is available not just for a few people or for some chosen section, but for the whole world! The same John later points out: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3: 16). This is the greatest news for all humanity! God loves you deeply and dearly! God has made every provision for your salvation and eternity! Christ has died for your sins and paid the full price for your freedom from the consequences of your sins! Have you accepted Him?

PRAYER: I worship the Lamb that was slain.
