TOPIC: Led By The Spirit

READ: LUKE 2:22-35 (Nkjv)

  1. Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present [Him] to the Lord
  2. (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the LORD”),
  3. and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”
  4. And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
  5. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
  6. So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law,
  7. he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:
  8. “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word;
  9. For my eyes have seen Your salvation
  10. Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,
  11. A light to [bring] revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.”
  12. And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him.
  13. Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this [Child] is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against
  14. “(yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

THE MESSAGE:

The earthly parents of Jesus Christ brought Him to the Temple in Jerusalem to:
(1) present Him to the Lord, and
(2) to offer a sacrifice, according to the Law of the Lord. A just and devout man called Simeon was led by the Holy Spirit to come into the Temple at that time. The Holy Spirit had already revealed to him that he would see Christ before his death. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, for the presentation ceremony, Simeon carried Jesus in his arms and spoke prophetically concerning His death, His ministry and His sacrificial death.

The leading of the Holy Spirit is critical in the Christian’s life. His presence reveals the identity of the child of God (Ephesians 4: 30). The Holy Spirit also guides Christians into all truth and gives them revelations. As a Christian parent, you must strive to bring up your children in the fear and nurture of God (Proverbs 22: 6). As a believer, you should seek to be filled and led by the Holy Spirit in all you do every day. Obedience to the Holy Spirit is the key to victorious Christian living.

PRAYER: Help me O Lord to be guided and controlled by the Holy Spirit today and every day in Jesus’ name. Amen.
