CGMI Above Only 19 September 2017, Devotional by Rev. M.E. Benson-Idahosa - Prevailing in Prayers

Topic: Prevailing in Prayers — Tuesday September 19, 2017.

Text: Luke 5:16, Luke 6:12, Ephesians 6:18 (NIV), 1Cor.14:18

And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed. *And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. *And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. *I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all.

Your understanding of the grace of God available to you in Christ has a way of causing you to want to draw closer to God. Prayer is a very good avenue for you to grow in intimacy and in your knowledge of God the Father. You need to maximize this access that you have to God’s throne of grace, just as Jesus maximized it throughout His time on the earth. That same grace by which Jesus prayed the way He prayed when He was on the earth is upon you, child of God. Prayer in itself is a major channel through which we receive God’s abundant grace into our lives. Hebrews 4:16 admonishes us to come boldly to God’s throne of grace to obtain mercy and to find grace to help us in our time of need. Child of God, be free and real in your prayers. You are talking to God, your loving Heavenly Father.

Pray in faith and pray in line with the word of God, 1John 5:14. Remember that we come to God in the name of Jesus and because of Jesus, we are guaranteed God’s audience and response to our prayers. The Holy Spirit is also always available to help us in our prayers, Rom.8:26-27. You must rely more on the strength and direction of the Holy Spirit as you pray. Pray under His influence and incessantly pray in tongues, ICor.14:14-15. Grace did not stop Apostle Paul from praying. On the contrary, it caused him to pray even more fervently than others.

The grace of God has a way of changing prayer from being a burden into bringing joy and delight. As you trust God for more of His grace, you will keep growing and making progress in your prayer life.

Prayer Focus: Thank God for His abundant grace available for you to draw nearer to Him and to grow and prevail in prayer. Desire more of Him and by faith make your requests known unto Him.
