Topic: Change [Open Heavens for Teens 1 June 2019]

Memorise: “And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.” – Hebrews 1:12

Read: Acts 19:1-7

1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

7 And all the men were about twelve.

Bible In One Year: 2 Chronicles 4-6, John 12:20-50

MESSAGE:

God’s covenant moved from the Old Testament to the New. That was a profound change that shaped the world. When Jesus came, the Old Testament was in force. He introduced the New Testament during His ministry on earth, giving men a glimpse of the change to come and changing their understanding. Those who fail to go with change end up blaming themselves because they eventually cut themselves off from many benefits. We need to understand that God is at the center of several changes around the world because He rules in the affairs of men. Daniel 2:21 says He changes times and seasons to suit His purpose.

God expects positive changes from you. Change from being a bench warmer in church to an active worker. Change from a disobedient and unhelpful child to your parents to an obedient and helpful child. There are certain areas in your life that really require change. Some things need to be dropped, like your habit of lying, or procrastinating. You also need to drop unhealthy habit and bad behavioural patterns. Don’t keep living with this baggage. Change!

Key Point:
Life is all about change. If you do not adapt to change, you might soon be rendered irrelevant, however, make sure you only adapt to positive change.

Hymn 2:

1 When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey, for theres no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3 Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4 But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5 Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
