TOPIC: Replace Your Worry With Worship

Bible Text: “He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” – Matthew 8:26-27

The primary focus of today’s lesson is to admonish and encourage ourselves on the need to replace worry with worship. In other words, when the wind of life blows towards your direction, do not worry but worship. Any time you find yourself in a situation you have absolutely no control over, switch your focus to the greatness of God. According to Rick Warren, to worship is to focus one’s attention on the greatness of God and this is the third antidote for withstanding the potentially devastating winds of life.

During the stormy days, when the wind of challenges blows from all sides and you seem to lose control over situations and circumstances, you have a choice to make. When your health fails and your business crumbles, you have a choice to make. When you face disappointments and your relationship breaks, you have a choice to make. When the unexpected happens and there seems to be no solution, you have a choice to make. The choice is between worry and worship. Are you going to worry? Or are you going to worship?

Today’s text reveals to us how the disciples of Jesus Christ replaced their worries with worship. Jesus was out in a boat with his disciples on the Sea of Galilee. The Sea of Galilee was, and is still a huge lake, making it easy for storms to come up suddenly. And that’s exactly what happened. There was a sudden storm and the ship began to toss and turn. In the face of this turbulence, Jesus was calm, peaceful, and even sleeping but the disciples were seriously worried.

However, when Jesus realized what was happening, He said to them, “‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ After this, the Bible says that Jesus “…got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!’” The entire experience left the disciples in awe of Jesus. They had forgotten for a moment who Jesus was. But when they saw Him display His power over nature, it turned their focus away from their fear and onto God’s greatness. In other words, the experience made them worship.

Beloved of God, when stormy winds push you off course and threaten to drown you, learn to focus on the greatness of God and replace your worry with worship. What are you afraid of in this season of your life? Whatever it is, with Jesus in your boat, you are unsinkable for He has power over nature and over everything else. Therefore, worship Him.

PROPHETIC PRAYER

I pray for you today:

  1. May the Lord increase your faith in Jesus’ name.
  2. He will help you to overcome your fears.
  3. The boat of your destiny will never capsize.
  4. The One Who Masters the storm will put a stop to every windy and stormy situation in your life.
  5. Your story will end in praise and worship.

So shall it be in Jesus’ name. Amen
