TOPIC Remember That Jesus Cares
Bible Text: “No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.” – John 14:18 (NLT)
The probability is very high that sometimes one may find oneself in some unexpected and uncomfortable situation or circumstance in life. When situations turn windy and stormy, we need to remember that Jesus loves us and cares for us. A reminder of the depth of Jesus’s love and care will boost our courage and help us to navigate through life’s devastating winds without being swept away.
It is important to realize that Jesus does not only see our struggles and challenges, but He also cares about them and gives attention to them. In other words, Jesus is not passive when it comes to meeting our needs in times of trouble, He is very active and alive to His responsibilities. He sees, He cares and He acts.
For example, in the story of how Jesus walked on water as recorded in the book of Mark 6:47-48, we can see how Jesus saw, cared, and did something to address the windy situation around his disciples. The Bible says that: “Later that night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. He saw the disciples straining at the oars because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn, he went out to them, walking on the lake” (NIV).
It was a difficult and challenging period for the disciples. They had about four issues to struggle with. First, it was already dark. Second, they were in the middle of a lake. Third, they were alone, and finally, “the wind was against them.” But the story did not end there. The Bible records that Jesus “saw them straining at the oars…and went out to them walking on the lake.” He didn’t just stand on the shoreline and tell them what to do. Instead, in their moment of desperation, Jesus walked out to them, encouraged them, and handled the situation. According to Mark 6:50-51, Jesus spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid”. Then He climbed into the boat and the wind calmed down immediately.
Beloved of God, that’s what Jesus does in your moment of desperation. In windy situations and stormy circumstances, Jesus cares enough to walk out to where you are and intervene. That’s the message of the Gospel. God came to Earth and became one of us. He took on all of our problems and died on the cross for our sins. He didn’t just shout instructions from heaven. He came to us and said, “I’ll solve the problem that you can’t solve.”
I don’t know what you’re going through right now. You may feel abandoned, but you’re not. God sees you, cares for you, and is with you, even in the darkest hour on the stormiest night. Whatever you are going through right now, remind yourself that Jesus sees you, cares for you and He’s walking in your direction to terminate that ugly situation.
