TOPIC: Divine Response To Human Suffering

BIBLE TEXT: “ The LORD said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.” So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey…” – Exodus 3:7-8

The primary aim of this lesson is to emphasize the biblical truth that God is never silent about human suffering. According to Psalm 121:3-4, God does not sleep nor slumber,He watches over His children both day and night. This was the case with the people of Israel in Egypt. They suffered severely in the hands of Pharaoh who pestered and subjected them to slavery and servitude. Initially,it was as if God had forgotten them but it turned out to be a testimony when God came to their rescue and delivered them from that ugly experience.

Three things are very important for our consumption. The first is that God is fully aware of our suffering.Nothing is hidden from His sight. He has eyes to see,He has ears to hear. He is aware of whatever you are passing through. The current situation in this country is not hidden from God. He knows about the hardship and suffering that people people go through. According to verse 7 of today’s text, “The LORD said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers…”.As God saw their misery in Egypt so He sees our predicament in this nation. As He heard them crying and groaning,so He hears us even now.

God is not only aware,He is concerned about our struggles. He is both sympathetic and empathic when it comes to identifying with us in our suffering .Your pain gives Him pains, your grief grieves His heart. He is never comfortable when you are in trouble. He doesn’t rejoice in your sorrow. Are you aware that God is seriously concerned about the current situation in this nation? Yes, He is very concerned. In verse 7 of today’s text He said “…I am concerned about their suffering.”

The third lesson is the understanding that God is ready to act on our behalf. God is very active in the affairs of men.He is not only aware and concerned,He is an active God who is ready to act on His children’s behalf. In today’s text He said, “So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey…”

Beloved of God, God is actively involved in your troubles. I can see Him acting on your behalf to rescue you. I can see Him acting on behalf of His children in this nation. He will come to deliver,He will come to set free. Therefore, let us continue to trust Him for a better tomorrow.
