The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya, on Friday said contrary to speculation, Senator Ighoyota Amori will not contest the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship election.

“Senator Ighoyota Amori is not contesting the post of PDP chairman in Delta State. He is not offering himself for the chairmanship election. Contesting as chairman will mean taking a step backward. He is bigger than that. His mates are national officers of the party. He should think about becoming a national officer of the party. If he decides to contest, I will not support him” he said.

Igbuya who spoke to journalists in Asaba also described as an act of mischief, media reports that he is planning to run for the governorship position in 2023.

“I did not say I will be governor in 2023. I don’t have the finance” he said.

He urged Deltans at home and abroad to treat the rumour as baseless and false.

Igbuya praised Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his patience, proper management of state funds and provision of meaningful developmental projects across the state.

He said his blanket endorsement of the state governor for the 2019 governorship election was in line with the principles of equity, justice and fairness.

Preaching unity and peace in the state, Igbuya said Okowa should be given the opportunity in 2019.

He called on Urhobo leaders at home and abroad to close ranks and work in one accord to reposition Delta Central for greater political relevance.

“I am committed to the interest of the Urhobo nation” he added.
