TOPIC: Falling Short Of God’s Glory

BIBLE TEXT: Romans 3:20-24

20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

CENTRAL TRUTH: When we commit sin we fall short of God’s glory

INTRODUCTION: The glory of God is the full manifestation of His presence and goodness in the life of a believer. For ALL have sinned and fallen short of His glory means that ordinarily, there is no way anyone can reach the presence of God or achieve the high standards of His goodness because ALL have sinned. But we have a way and that way is only through His son Jesus Christ.

STUDY GUIDE:
A. What makes Jesus the way?

  1. He is our Advocate. 1 John 2:1
  2. He died for our sins. 1 Cor. 15:3
  3. His blood cleanses us. Heb. 9:14
  4. We now have the boldness to come into God’s presence. Heb 4:16
  5. We can have our sins forgiven? Eph 1:7
  6. His righteousness has been imputed upon us. Rom. 3:22
  7. We are joint heirs with Jesus Christ. Rom. 8:14-15

B. What can make us to fall short of God’s glory?
The only thing highlighted in the scriptures is SIN.
What is sin?
The simplest definition is found in James 4:17. Write it out –
…………………………………………………….
Sin comes in diverse forms. The one committed consciously and the one by inheritance through our Adamic nature or the ones unconscious committed. Christians must watch that we do not fall into any of these forms of sin

C. Examples of people that fell short of God’s glory are:

  1. Peter, when he denied Jesus. Luke 22:62
  2. Saul, when he took laws into his hands and sacrifice to God. 1 Sam.13:8-13

DISCUSSION: Mention and discuss other people that fell short of God’s glory in the bible.

INVITATION/APPLICATION: Check yourself, are you short of God’s glory?
You need to repent and turn back to God for restoration.

CONCLUSION: Short in the context of Romans 3:23 means not having the fullness of God’s glory. This means that it is possible for one not to be radiating the glory of God in its entirety. For instance, if there is an electric bulb switched on, a to that wants the ray of light from the bulb to reflect on him must make effort to get nearer to it. Meaning that it is possible to be seeing the bulb afar off and not getting reflection from it. For you to radiate the glory of God fully, you must be closer to Him.

PRAYER: Father, please have mercy on me. Forgive me of any area that I have come short of your glory.
