Topic: The Force of Relationship (2)

Dear Reader,

You are welcome to another segment of this month’s teaching. Last week, we saw why God wants us to be involved in relationships. This week, I will be sharing on Building a strong Relationship with God.

Your relationship with God can be considered from three different levels, namely: as your Creator, Father and Lord.

God is your Creator (Genesis 1:27) and you can relate with Him as His creature. To every human being on planet earth, born again or not, whether it is accepted by them or not, God created everyone. He is the Creator of every living being. However, God only becomes your Father when you give your life to Jesus, and get born again. God’s Word says: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name (John 1:12).

When you have a personal relationship and encounter with God, He becomes your Father. He becomes both your Creator and your Father. However, the highest relationship with God is when He becomes your Lord. He becomes your Lord when your life is sown as a seed in dedication and absolute commitment unto Him. He is only the Lord of those who have consciously dedicated their lives unto Him. He is the Lord of those who are ready to say: “Yes Lord” to His will, plan, purpose and destiny, and those who are ready to say like Apostle Paul: For me to live is Christ and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21). This is the level that God desires from us. You graduate from one level to another, in that order.

The question then is: Is He Lord over your life? Or are you lord over yourself? It is important to know that God can be your Father without being your Lord. But when He becomes your Lord, you can be sure nothing can change His plan and purpose for your life. May that be your portion in Jesus’ name!

It is very important for you, therefore, to understand that God desires an intimate relationship with you. He wants you to have an intimate relationship with Him, but you have to open up to Him. To develop an intimate relationship with God, however, you have to consciously, deliberately, intentionally, willingly and excitedly make yourself available through deep Word study, prayer life and constant fellowshipping with Him.

The most important choice any husband and wife can make in their marriage relationship is to place God first in their lives. Placing God first in your marriage, even above your spouse is the best relationship you can ever have in the whole world. There is no other relationship in life that compares in value or can replace your relationship with God. In actual fact, we can safely say that your relationship with God is the only sure foundation for success in every other kind of relationship. Therefore, it is utterly important for you to straighten up your relationship with God.

How you treat God without any doubt, will affect how you treat men. How do you treat God? Do you respect Him or are you one of those that take Him for granted? Do you see your relationship with Him as one of those things just to fulfill all righteousness? You must relate with Him with a deeper knowledge of who He is.

It’s time, therefore, to seek God and search for Him whole-heartedly! Seek Him and search for Him with all your heart, because that is the foundation of every other relationship. Remember, He says in His Word, only those who seek Him early shall find Him (Proverbs 8:17).

To prioritize our relationship, Jesus Christ gave the two great commandments as, first, love for God and second, love for neighbour (Matthew 22:37-40). These two commandments represent the whole of the Ten Commandments. The first four of the Ten Commandments show how we put God first in our lives. The last six Commandments show how we should love our neighbours including our spouse, as ourselves.

Putting God first is a pointer to how a husband and wife will put each other ahead of themselves in their marital relationship.

God becomes your Father when you give your life to Jesus, and get born again. Are you ready for Him now? Say this prayer and you shall be born again: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”
