FIFA’s Ad-hoc Electoral Committee will scrutinise the proposed candidacy of Joseph S. Blatter, Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, Luis Figo and Michael van Praag before revealing the eligible candidates for the May 29 election in Zurich, Switzerland.
The world football governing body confirmed on Monday that the quartet have successfully earned the stipulated 5 national associations’ votes; hence, they have “passed the candidature dossiers to the investigatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee to carry out integrity checks within ten days.”
Fifa said in a statement: “Upon receipt of the results of the integrity checks, the Ad-hoc Electoral Committee will reconvene in order to review all of the submissions and validate their compliance with the applicable FIFA regulatory provisions. Following this process, the Ad-hoc Electoral Committee will formally admit and declare the candidates who are eligible for the office of FIFA President.”
Former Fifa diplomat and ex-France international Jerome Champagne and his compatriot David Ginola failed to attract required backing for the FIFA top job, with the former confirming earlier in the day that he had won nomination from only three national associations.
Blatter, who has been head of FIFA since 1998 is seeking for a fifth tenure. Deadline for submission of bid for the FIFA general election elapsed last week Thursday.
