Topic: Trust In Marriage

“The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.” – Proverbs 31:11

The very essence of life depends on trust. You go to bed at night with a to-do list for the next day because you trust that you would wake up to actualize those plans. You enter a cab or commercial vehicle because you trust that the driver can drive and as such you would get to your destination safely.

Trust is defined as the firm belief in the reliability, truth, or strength of a person. It is the confident expectation you have in a person or thing that it would perform its obligation or responsibility. This is what you do when you commit yourself to someone in marriage.

Marriage entails that you place your confidence in your spouse to be honest with you, faithful and committed to the relationship. Unfortunately, a number of homes lack this vital virtue. Trust is not a gift, so it is not something you give to someone. Trust is a virtue that you must get and build as a person. How wonderful the world will be, if everyone builds on being trustworthy and learns to also trust.

Noteworthy is that trust is built on your entirety. Your actions, what you say, how reliable you are; and it can also be tied to your integrity. It might not be easy to build your trust in a person, but it is very easy to lose your trust in someone and once lost, is difficult to restore. This is why we must be careful with what we say and do per time.

In building trust, you must be known to say the truth at all times (even when most uncomfortable), because there is no substitute for the truth. Also, you should be loyal to your spouse; most especially in their absence. It is also important to immediately apologise when you have done or perceive to have done something wrong as apologising too many times is better than doing so too little times. Then, you must be committed to building a strong, love filled and God-abiding family.

In all, trust in marriage is built only when both parties are responsible and committed to build and create the right atmosphere in the home. You will not miss it in the name of Jesus!

Remain Blessed!
