The Kogi State Government says it would put in place mechanism that will encourage Pharmacists stay long in its service.

Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada, stated this when he received in audience Pharm Olumide Akintayo, President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, and other Executive Members who are in the State for the Society’s National Executive Council.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy Yomi Awoniyi, said the Intervention of Pharmacists in the areas of drug – drug, drug – food and drug – disease interaction cannot be ignored worldwide, said the State Government would strive to not only employ more pharmacists, but provide an enabling working environment that will enable those in its service to stay.

Capt Wada said his administration is concerned about access to safe medicine, said it will strive to imbibe the consultancy cadre option as approved by the National Council of establishment.

Similarly, the Governor promised to strengthen its state task force on fake and counterfeit medicine through proper funding as well as domesticate the State Drug Distribution Centre through Public Private Partnership.
Capt Wada expressed happiness that the state has no record of fake and counterfeit drugs following measures it has put in place, commended PSN for holding its conference in the state.
Earlier in his remarks, Pharm Olumide Akintayo, President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria said the society is in the state to engage government as well as stakeholders on welfare of public sector pharmacists.

He added that the society is equally discussing measures of decorum in drug distribution endeavors, called for the employment of more pharmacists, as well as ensure an improved working condition for pharmacists working in the state.

In a vote of thanks, Pharm Yunusa Nasiru, Kogi State Chief of Staff, commended the PSN for choosing Kogi State for its NEC, said through efforts of government, Kogi State is protected from fake and counterfeit medicine.
