TOPIC: Redeem Your Vows (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries Wednesday, 19 September 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Ecclesiastes 5:2-6 MEMORY VERSE: “If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.” – Numbers 30:2 The MESSAGE: Vows means making a solemn promise to someone or oneself. However, in this context, we shall examine vow as a serious promise made to God. Vow can be viewed as a covenant between man and God. Man often vows when expecting something from God and in return, he is expected to give something back or fulfil an obligation to God. An example of this is Hannah in the book of 1 Samuel chapter 1 and 2. When we are facing great and difficult situations, we are quick at making vows to God. We cry and beg God to intervene and we commit ourselves with vows either in the church or outside the church. You must realise that vows are covenants, and as such they are binding and authentic. God respects vows; it is one of the most potent principles of giving and receiving. The Bible says in Psalm 66:12-13 “we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place. I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows.” It is important to understand that vows are made voluntarily and that they come out of our mouths; it is a personal commitment or solemn promise. Ecclesiastes 5: 4-5 encourages us to always redeem our vows: it says it is better not to vow than to vow and not pay. In many cases, when God answers the prayers, people try to go into negotiation with God as it concerns the vow they made. Some even regret that they made the vow; others give excuses and try to justify why they should not pay. A brother asked God for a breakthrough and made a vow that if a contract was awarded to him and the money paid, he would give God twenty percent of the proceeds. God did it, and he started calculating the money in millions. Then, he felt the money was ‘too much’ for God, so he decided to drop a peanut at the church. God pulled out his hands from the contract and he lost everything and came running back to the church. Beloved, be encouraged. No matter what reason the devil is presenting to you, do not break your vow. Ensure that you redeem your vow and avoid the wrath of God. All through history, it has been shown time and again that our God has respect for vows. God works tremendous miracles when people fulfil their vows. There are biblical examples like Hannah (1 Samuel 1:11, 20), Jacob (Genesis 28:20-22), Jephthah, and David, etc. I pray that God will open your eyes to see the value of making and redeeming your vows, in Jesus’ name.
