TOPIC: A Person Of Character (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Saturday, 23 June 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Romans 5:1-5

MEMORY VERSE: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”Philippians 4:8

The MESSAGE:

As the excellence of gold is its purity and the excellence of art is its beauty, so the excellence of man is his character. Persons of character are noted for their honesty, ethics and charity. Descriptions such as “the man of principle” and “woman of integrity” are assertions of character. A lack of character is moral deficiency and persons lacking character tend to bahave dishonestly, unethically and uncharitably. A person’s character is the sum total of his or her dispositions, thoughts, intentions, desires, and actions.

Character is influenced and developed by our choices. Daniel resolved not to defile himself in Babylon (Daniel 1:8). Character in the believer is a constant manifestation of Jesus in his life. God sometimes uses trials to strengthen character. “…but we glory in tribulations also; knowing that tribulation worketh patience and patience, experience, hope” (Romans 5:3-4). The Lord is pleased when His children grow in character. We can develop character by controlling our thoughts (Philippians 4:8) and keeping good company (1 Corinthians 15:33).

Sometimes, when we read the ancient stories about Bible characters (especially the Old Testament), it is easy to forget that, they were real human beings just like us. They are not heroes of faith because they were perfect human beings, but because they chose to follow God even while under pressure to do otherwise.

Joseph’s life provides us with a beautiful example of a person who totally commits to living a godly life regardless of the ugly circumstances encountered. Joseph exhibits the character of God through his faithfulness, integrity, purity and mercy, even while forced to endure intense pressure and difficulty. In our everyday lives, we need to implement the principles modelled by these wonderful men and women of God as we remember that our choices have consequences too. Joseph remained focused and unshakeable throughout. While passing through the Pit, Portiphar’s home and Prison, he remained unshakeable because the sun, moon and the eleven stars could not be found in those locations to bow down to him. We all know that in the end, Joseph, the Hebrew slave, rose from the dungeon to the highest position in the massive Egyptian empire which meant he had enormous power and riches. He was second only to Pharoah. So, God rewarded Joseph generously for his righteousness. However, we cannot ignore the price Joseph paid before reaping his reward. He was mistreated, abused, hated, betrayed, enslaved, tempted, tested, lied against, unjustly imprisoned and forgotten (though not by God) in a dungeon for many years, in Joseph we see a person who modelled three traits: he walked in holiness, waited patiently and maintained and soft and grateful heart before the Lord.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
We develop Godly character when we treat people the way we want to be treated, not the way they treat us.

May your character today and always, advertise Jesus.
