TOPIC: Covetousness (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Tuesday, 22 May 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Jude 1:10-13

MEMORY VERSE:
“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” – Hebrews 13:5

The MESSAGE:

Covetousness is an inordinate love or affection for things which you do not necessarily need or already have. Ahab the king had several vineyards but was still covetous. He could not take his eyes off the vineyard of Naboth. His covetousness made him so soul-sick about possessing Naboth’s vineyard, that he indirectly murdered Naboth courtesy of his demonic wife, Jezebel.

Covetousness is a great deal because it is found in the Ten Commandments written by the fingers of God on tablets of stone, which were handed over to Moses. God declared amidst other commandments that, “Thou shalt not covet” and He later broke it down to things you should not covet of your neighbour. Lack of contentment is the root cause of covetousness and greed. A man who has no legs will covet another man’s footwear. A man with footwear will covet another man’s bicycle. A man with bicycle covets another man’s motorcycle while a man with motorcycle will be greedy of another man’s car. A man with a car covets the plane of a man who flies in a plane and the cycle goes on and on in life.

Balaam was greedy and covetous of financial gain from Balak the king. He still went ahead on an evil agenda despite the warning and restraint from the Lord. He wanted wealth at all cost by disobeying the Lord. We all know how disastrous his end was. We are admonished by the Scriptures that having food and raiment, we should be contented. Many have lost their salvation and other Christian experiences due to covetousness and greed for money and material things. They traded their souls for the devil. They have forgotten that we brought nothing into this world and that we would take back nothing (1 Timothy 6:6-7)

The antidote to the poison of covetousness and greed is contentment and satisfaction. The believer should learn to be content at all times. He should be constantly satisfied with what the Lord gives him. The believer should not fret at the wicked when they prosper nor desire their wealth (Psalm 37:7). He should constantly affirm that his Father has a thousand cattle upon a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10) and that his Father has all the silver and gold (Haggai 2:8).

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
Godliness with contentment is great gain. Appreciate God for what you have.

PROPHETIC WORD:
The Lord will satisfy your mouth with every good thing that you need.
