READ: Genesis 39:1-4

  1. And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmaelites, which had brought him down thither.
  2. And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
  3. And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
  4. And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Corinthians 13:1-14

MASSAGE:

If you do a study on the life of Joseph, you will discover that he knew how to serve people. When he was still a child, he catered to the needs of his father and checked on his elder brothers who were rearing flocks in the field (Genesis 37:13-14). When he was taken as a slave to Egypt, he served his master Potiphar to the point that he made him an overseer of his house (Genesis 39:3-4). While in prison, he served, as the warden left other prisoners in his care. No wonder when he eventually became a Prime Minister, he performed excellently.

My dear child, your ability to serve others genuinely will qualify you for that big achievement or position you’re aiming at. Don’t be like the child who wants to enjoy wealth but doesn’t want to work for it. It is true that some people are born great but their attitude to service will determine whether their greatness will last.

If you really want to be great, whatsoever your hand finds to do in your house, school, church, neighbourhood or community, put in your best. Serve God with your gifts and abilities; in no time, high positions will find you.

KEY POINT:

If you’re faithful in little, you will get bigger opportunities.

HYMN: Let Others See Jesus In You

  1. While passing through this world of sin,
    And others your life shall view,
    Be clean and pure without, within,
    Let others see Jesus in you.

CHORUS

Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

  1. Your life’s a book before their eyes,
    They’re reading it through and through;
    Say, does it point them to the skies,
    Do others see Jesus in you?
  2. What joy ’twill be at set of sun,
    In mansions beyond the blue,
    To find some souls that you have won;
    Let others see Jesus in you.
  3. Then live for Christ both day and night,
    Be faithful, be brave, and true,
    And lead the lost to life and light;
    Let others see Jesus in you.
