READ: Matthew 16:25-26

  1. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
  2. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Hebrews 1-13, Jeremiah 40-42

MESSAGE:

Gratification means pleasure. To delay gratification means to deny one’s self of pleasure that brings immediate satisfaction. It also means to be disciplined enough not to indulge in things that would satisfy one for a moment but hinder one from achieving greatness. Esau is an example of one who didn’t delay gratification. He lived in the moment and never thought of the future. When he killed any animal, he ate it all that day. No wonder it was easy for Jacob to rob him of his blessings. While he was still in the bush, Jacob had taken from the animals nearby, killed, prepared and served it to his father.

You must delay the pleasure of sex until you get married – whether as a boy or a girl. There is better glory in getting married as a virgin. You must deny the pleasures of sin on this earth so that you can enjoy the glory in Heaven when Christ comes. If Jesus could leave His glory above, endure the pain on the cross for a greater name and is now set at the right hand of God, so can you.

KEY POINT:

Think of the glory of tomorrow before you indulge in sin today.

HYMN: Nearer, My God

  1. Nearer, my God, to Thee,
    nearer to thee!
    E’en though it be a cross
    that raiseth me,
    still all my song shall be,
    nearer, my God,
  2. Though like the wanderer,
    the sun gone down,
    darkness be over me,
    my rest a stone;
    yet in my dreams I’d be
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
  3. There let the way appear,
    steps unto heaven;
    all that Thou sendest me,
    in mercy given;
    angels to beckon me
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
  4. Then with my waking thoughts
    bright with Thy praise,
    out of my stony griefs
    Bethel I’ll raise;
    so by my woes to be
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
  5. Or if, on joyful wing
    cleaving the sky,
    sun, moon, and stars forgot,
    upward I fly,
    still all my song shall be,
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
