Memorise: He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1 John 4:8

Read: 1 John 4:7-16

  1. Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
  2. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
  3. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
  4. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
  5. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
  6. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
  7. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
  8. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
  9. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
  10. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Bible In One Year: Daniel 7-8; 1 John 5:1-21

MESSAGE:

When you see a Christian, one thing you will notice is that the fellow will show love to those around him. This is because the God who lives in him is love. If you see someone who professes to be a Christian but hates someone else, then you can be sure that God is not living in such a fellow.

Are you a true Christian? How well do you love your neighbours? It does not matter if you can fast for 40 days and 40 nights, it does not matter if you can raise the dead, if you don’t love your neighbour as yourself, God is not living in you. In Matthew 25:31-46 , the judgement day was clearly described to us. Many people who heal the sick and raise the dead in Jesus name will not go to heaven simply because they did not show love to the hungry, the sick, the naked and the imprisoned. In fact, Jesus will tell them:

“And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matthew 7:23”

If you don’t show love to your neighbour, you are a worker of iniquity. If you don’t give food to the hungry when you have, give clothes to the naked and visit the sick to pray for them, you are a worker of iniquity and not a Christian. May you not be denied by Jesus Christ in Jesus name.

Key Point:

If God is truly dwelling within you, you will show love to others genuinely.

Hymn: What A Friend We Have In Jesus

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
  2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged;
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a Friend so faithful?
Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
  3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Savior, still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
    In His arms He’ll take and shield You;
You wilt find a solace there.
