Topic: Healthy Communication (2)

“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”- Colossians 4:6

Choosing the right words is an art that must be learnt by every couple. Submerged in one’s choice of words are love, respect, understanding and submission. The man chooses words that convey his message to his wife without disrespecting or trampling on her feelings, while the woman responds to the seed of right words by speaking words that will honour and boost the ego of her husband.

At the root of every communication is the heart. It is what you think about that eventually forms your words.  That is why the Bible says, out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. When all you think about your spouse is negative and your focus is only on his or her deficiencies, the words you will speak to your spouse will not be right words.

A wise man once said that words are the most powerful things on the earth. It has the capacity to positively or negatively impact on all the major areas of our lives. Also, with right words, you can soften the heart of the most seemingly difficult spouse or make an introverted spouse speak up. Couples must learn the art of positive communication. People who are in deep waters in their relationships are those who fail to either speak positively or those who spend little to no time in open and honest communication.

The result of healthy communication is that it enhances intimacy, unity and love. The words you speak are to edify your spouse and should be aimed at making the relationship better, not worse, hurting your partner. To make your marriage even better therefore, engage the power of positive speaking and you will be surprised the effect it will have on your spouse and family as a whole.

Remain blessed!
