Topic: Be Attentive [Friday 11 September, 2015]

“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:”-Proverbs 6:6

In life, there is no regimented place for you to draw lessons from. It could be from friends, nature, animals, insects or really, just anything. Most of the time, people feel they have to be in a particular place, do something special or behave in a particular way before they can gain morals on living. However, when you look around you and in the lives of others, you realise things you don’t know and may never have learnt on your own.

Life is full of experiences and in those experiences are lessons to be learnt to make you wiser, better and thoroughly furnished for productive living. However, the decision to draw morals from your experiences is solely yours. There is no situation that comes per chance; as everything happen for a reason, depending on how you see it. Every minute of your time, and every event you are confronted with should make you stronger, better and more experienced at something.

Thomas Edison tried making a light bulb 1000 times and failed. When asked how it felt to fail 1000 times, he said: “I didn’t fail 1000 times; the light bulb was an invention with 1000 steps.” That’s how we should see every challenge that comes our way.

I often ponder after a day’s work on things I have learnt from those activities, what I did that should not have been done in the manner I did do them, and what should never repeat itself. Everyday should be an improvement on the former; if only you are open to learn from the activities you are involved and/or affected by.

There is no lesson too small to be learnt, and there is nothing insignificant around you; it’s only our perception of things that differ. However, if you want to live profitably on this earth, then you must seek wisdom at all times. Wisdom in most cases is not something far-fetched. It just takes your sensitivity, attentiveness and willingness to learn. There are morals to learn everywhere and every day, if only you would give yourself to it and stop being too casual about it all.

Remain Blessed!
