Topic: Enjoying your differences [Saturday 26 December, 2015]

“My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.” Psalms 49:3

In marriage, husband and wife are meant to be friends, lovers and companions, but only understanding and acceptance of the male and female differences will make it possible. As partners in marriage, you must understand the uniqueness in each other and learn to enjoy it. Appreciate the fact that these differences in your spouse is to perfect what you already have.

Many people desire to change their spouse’s character trait or personality to suit theirs. Unknown to them, that trait you wish to change might just be the perfecting link in your relationship. Someone rightly said: “A great marriage is not when the ‘perfect couple’ comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.” Learn to enjoy the fact that your spouse would not always reason from your point of view. In most cases, he or she might just be the one with the prefect idea.

Also, appreciate your uniqueness in styles, skills and intelligence. Someone once complained that her husband would always oppose her style of dressing their children. Most times, he would ask her to change the cloths she wears them or combine it in a certain way. At a point, she decided not to argue further and just comply. Sooner, she realised that her husband had a better view on fashion than she did. If she hadn’t learnt to appreciate his difference in fashion, she wouldn’t have realised what she did.

Therefore, you should learn to understand your spouse’s strengths and weaknesses and how these traits can suit yours perfectly. Understanding they say is what bring outstanding results. Hence, when you know why your spouse acts in a certain way, you learn to appreciate him or her better, rather than complain. It is my prayer that your marital relations grow sweeter than it is today in the name of Jesus Christ!

Remain Blessed!
